Abstract

In order to study the wet swelling deformation characteristics of expanded rock under different water conditions,the expansive rock foundation in Wanzhou area was studied by means of the calculation model established by PFC3D software based on the lateral limit no-load expansion test and double electric layer theory.The results show that the numerical simulation results agree well with those of laboratory tests.The time-schedule characteristics of the whole process can be divided into three stages:creep with variable acceleration,creep with uniform rising and creep with variable deceleration.Increasing the water content in the expansive rock will first cause the expansion of the clay mineral particles in the expansive rock,and then will lead to wet swelling deformation at the macro level when the expansion of the particles accumulates to a certain stage.The relationship between the swelling deformation and the swelling deformation rate essentially reflects the"stress-strain"constitutive relation between the swelling strain and the swelling stress.The swelling deformation rate of the swelling rock is similar to that of the cell,that is,with the increase of the internal water content,it shows a trend of"Λ"shape.The lateral confined expansion test under K0 stress cannot fully release the expansion potential of the expanded rock,so the expansion test under triaxial stress is needed for further research.
