Preparation and Antibacterial Effects Analysis of Traditional Chinese Medicine Solid Air Freshener for Preventing Avian Respiratory Diseases

Abstract
In order to develop a convenient-to-use traditional Chinese medicine solid air freshener that can purify the air and prevent avian respiratory diseases,this study extracted the volatile oils of herbs including Pogostemon cablin,Atractylodes macrocephala,Angelica dahurica,Fructus tsaoko,Acorus calamus,and Artemisia argyi mixed according to the prescription of the traditional Chinese medicine master Zhou Zhongying.The volatile oils were added with a solubilizer and emulsifier to make the traditional Chinese medicine solid air freshener.The volatile amount of the air freshener was measured at room temperature.The solid air fresheners containing different volatile oils and mixed herb solid air fresheners with different degrees of volatility were tested for their antibacterial effects on pathogenic bacteria(Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus,and Staphylococcus albus)causing respiratory diseases using the agar diffusion method.The antibacterial activity of the solid air freshener was evaluated based on the inhibition zone diameter.The results showed that the composition of the solid air freshener was carrageenan(20%),benzoic acid(0.2%),volatile oil(4%),polysorbate(1%),and distilled water.The volatile performance of 50 g solid air freshener was good.The solid air freshener containing volatile oils from mixed herbs showed no significant inhibitory effect on Escherichia coli,but it exhibited inhibition zone diameters of 20.1 mm and 41.7 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus albus,respectively,indicating high sensitivity.Moreover,the solid air freshener with different degrees of volatility still inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus albus after volatilization,indicating that the prepared mixed herb solid air freshener could continuously inhibit the growth of these two pathogenic bacteria.The results indicate that the preparation process of this traditional Chinese medicine solid air freshener is simple,and it has a pleasant aroma,effectively purifying the air and inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria,providing effective prevention against the spread of avian respiratory diseases.关键词
