Does Business Environment Distance Enhance the Innovation Performance of Multinational Corporations?

Abstract
The investment abroad of multinational corporations in emerging economic markets is facing practical challenges in terms of investment legitimacy,which has resulted in a low degree of reverse technology spillover effects for overseas sub-sidiaries.Taking Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2005 to 2018 as the research samples,the article examines the influence mechanism of business environment distance on the parent company's innovation performance from the perspective of domestic and international two-way R&D of parent companies,and further discusses the moderating effects of migrant networks and their heterogeneity on the relationship between business environment distance and two-way R&D of parent companies.The research results show that the business environment distance positively affects the innovation performance of enterprises,that is,a differentiated business environment is more conducive to leveraging reverse technology spillovers of overseas subsidiaries.The absorptive capacity and R&D internationalization capacity of the parent company play a partial mediating role in the impact of business environment distance on the parent company's innovation perform-ance.Migrant networks can strengthen the relationship between business environment distance and two-way R&D of enter-prises,and the strengthening effect of the high skilled migrant networks is more significant.关键词
