Abstract

To solve the problems of low sensitivity,difficulty in defect location,and easy occurrence of missed inspection and misjudgment in ultrasonic testing of welds with excess thickness for hig-end equipment,a study on ultrasonic phased array testing simulation and process was conducted,taking the embedded welds of the butt joint between the nozzle and the cylinder of a 70 MPa high pressure anechoic water tank as the object.A three-dimensional model was established on the CIVA simulation platform.It was analyzed that the intensity distribution of acoustic field under different focusing laws through full factor experiments.It was discussed that the influence of different testing process parameters on actual testing results by simulation.And the defect position was corrected from a regional perspective.Simulation and actual testing results indicate that it can achieve full coverage testing of 440 mm thickness welds that using the multi-layer sector-scan of primary shear wave.At the same time,it is solved that the problems of large curvature change and inaccurate defect location in the circumferential testing of welded joints in plug-in pipe connections by correction method for different regions.The method provides a reference for formulating phased array testing process standards for welded joints with excess thickness.
