Strength model and design recommendations for high strength steel fillet welds

Abstract
At present,research on the mechanical behavior of high strength steel fillet welds mostly adopts experimental methods,and lacks a complete set of design theories.For this purpose,traditional strength model and failure criteria for mild steel were used to predict fracture angle and load carrying capacity of high strength steel fillet welds.By comparing with the test results,the maximum shear stress criterion was selected,which had higher accuracy,and then the value of parameter C in the model was determined.Because of the influence of friction between steel plates and the constraint effect caused by stress concentration at the welding root,two parameters were derived to modify the strength model.In order to facilitate engineering application,combined with the calculation and derivation process of bearing capacity,a simplified formula for fillet welds under different loading angles was proposed,and the formula was verified.By collecting and summarizing data on weld size,material properties and specimen working performance,the reliability of the simplified formula was analyzed,and it was concluded that the resistance factor was 0.79 when the safety index was 4.5.Suggestions were made on the design method of high-strength steel fillet weld connections in Chinese specifications,that is,the effects of constraint effects,friction effects,welding material strength and loading angle should be taken into account in the calculation formula of bearing capacity.关键词
