Smart City Construction and Enterprise Digital Transformation:Theoretical Mechanism and Empirical Test

Abstract
With the rapid development of digital economy,smart city has not only become an important trend of future urban development,but also provides an important opportunity for the digital transformation of enterprises.Based on the data of A-share listed enterprises from 2007 to 2020,this paper takes the smart city pilot policy as A quasi-natural experiment and adopts the multi-period DID model to investigate the impact and mechanism of smart city construction on the digital transformation of enterprises.The results show that:(1)Smart city construction can significantly promote the digital transformation of enterprises,and this conclusion is still valid after a series of robustness tests;(2)The construction of smart city mainly promotes the digital transformation of enterprises through two mechanisms:alleviating financing constraints and improving technological innovation;(3)Smart city construction plays a stronger role in promoting the digital transformation of non-state-owned enterprises,enterprises in high-tech industries,enterprises in growth and maturity stages,and enterprises in the eastern region.Based on the above conclusions,this paper puts forward policy suggestions to actively promote the construction of smart city,accelerate digital technology innovation,promote the development of digital industry,promote the digital transformation of enterprises,and grasp the development opportunities of digital economy.关键词
