Abstract

This paper aimed to evaluate the current situation of natural forest resources and the value of eco-system services in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region after the implementation of the Natural Forest Protection Project(a nationwide project in China),and to provide technical support for the collaborative conservation of natural forests in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.Based on the data of national management inventory,the principal component analysis and analytic hierarchy process were adopted to establish an optimal model to evaluate the service function and quality of natural forest ecosystem in the study area.The results indicated that after the implementation of the project,the number of natural forest resources and the volume per unit area in the study region increased steadily year by year.The volume of natural forest increased from 3 488.73 × 104(before the implementation of the project)to 7 599.14 × 104 m3(after the project).The qual-ity and value measurement indicators of natural forest ecological services increased significantly.Compared with the initial stage of the first phase of the project,the amount of water conservation increased by 28.69×108 m3·a-1,the total value increased by 550.19 × 10s yuan·a-1,indicating that the project has great potential to provide ecological services.In the comprehensive evaluation system of natural forest qual-ity,the criterion layer that had the greatest impact was the forest productivity index(0.41),and the five indexes that had the greatest impact on the criterion layer were age group(0.200 1),average diameter at breast height(0.180 1),number of trees per hectare(0.092 5),average tree height(0.085 3)and altitude(0.049 3).The quality of natural forests in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is generally at the medium level.It is concluded that through the implementation of the project,the quantity of natural forest resources in the region increases year by year,and the capacity to provide ecological services has been gradually enhanced.However,the quality of regional natural forests is generally not high at present stage,and there is much room for improvement.The quality of natural forests in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region can be improved by imple-menting management measures such as adjusting and optimizing age group structure and stand density.
