Optimization of Penetration Resistance of Sapphire Transparent Armor Composite Structure

Abstract
In this paper,the 14.5 mm projectile penetrated the transparent armor composite structure is simulated using dynamic software.The composite structure is composed of sapphire,float glass,and polycarbonate.Based on available ballistic test data,the effect of mass ratio of different materials on the penetration resistance of the transparent armor composite structure is studied.The results show that when the total thickness of sapphire is same,the penetration resistance of single sapphire is better than the multi-storey composite structure.The more layers of sapphire are,the lower the protection efficiency of the structure.Under the condition of constant surface density of the composite structure and thickness of the polycarbonate,the residual velocity of the projectile firstly decreases,then increases,and then decreases with increasing of mass ratio of sapphire.And excessive increasing of the thickness of polycarbonate will lead to a decrease in the penetration resistance of the composite structure.关键词
