Abstract

In view of the disadvantages of the traditional thermal expansion coefficient measurement method,such as long experimental time,low test temperature,and difficulty to apply to aerobic environment,the thermal expansion coefficient measurement method of C/C composite material is proposed based on continuous laser heating and digital image correlation(DIC)technology.The thermal expansion coefficients of two types of C/C composites,namely needle-punched and three-dimensional woven,are obtained under laser-induced high-temperature ramp rate and aerobic environment from room temperature to approximately 1 000 ℃.The results show that the coefficients of thermal expansion for the needle-punched and three-dimensional woven types are generally smaller in the direction of fibre reinforcement,although there are some differences with increasing temperatures.The method proposed here for measuring thermal expansion coefficient has several advantages,including high experimental efficiency,high temperature rise rate,and suitability for aerobic environments.This method is of great significance for characterising the high-temperature thermomechanical properties of high-temperature resistant materials such as C/C composites.
