Abstract

[Objective]The aims of this study are to explore the change characteristics and driving factors of runoff and sediment load in the Weihe River Basin,and to provide scientific basis for water resource management and ecological environment construction in the Weihe River Basin.[Methods]Based on the measured precipitation,runoff and sediment load data of Huaxian and Zhuangtou hydrological stations in the Weihe River Basin from 1957 to 2019,the trend and the change-point year of annual precipitation,runoff and sediment load were analyzed by modern mathematical statistical.The contribution rates of runoff and sediment load reduction in Weihe River Basin were calculated.The main influencing factors of human activities on runoff and sediment load changes in the Weihe River were discussed.[Results]There was a strong decreasing trend in runoff and sediment load of Weihe River Basin from 1957 to 2019(p<0.01),and the annual precipitation fluctuated randomly and had no obvious change trend.Abrupt year analyses showed that more rapid declines for runoff began in 1990(p<0.01),and sediment load began in 1996(p<0.01).The contribution rates of precipitation to the reduction of runoff and sediment load were 19%and 17%,respectively.The contribution rates of runoff and sediment load reduction caused by human activities were 81%and 83%,respectively.[Conclusion]Human activities are the main reason for the significant reduction of runoff and sediment load in the Weihe River Basin.
