Comparative of Application Efficiency of Upflow and Downflow Biological Activated Carbon Technology in WTPs in Nanjing Area

Abstract
Through the long-term detection of upflow and downflow biological activated carbon(BAC)filters in two water treatment plants(WTPs)in Nanjing area,the purification efficiency and self-performance of the two types of BAC were systematically compared.The results showed that the overall removal efficiency of upflow BAC pool to ammonia,permanganate index and other water quality indices was better than that of downflow BAC pool during long-term operation.The decay degree of iodine and methylene blue values of BAC in upflow and downflow BAC pools was similar,but the adsorption performance of BAC particles in upflow BAC pools was better than that in downflow BAC WTPs.After 8 years of operation,the biomass and biological activity of the two types of BAC pools tended to be stable,but the microbial community richness of the upflow BAC pools was higher and the biodegradation performance was better.关键词
