Overview of Channel Estimation for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-Assisted Communications towards 6G System

Abstract
With the exploration of future technologies towards 6G,reconfigurable intelligent surface(RIS)has emerged as one of the revolutionary technologies,demonstrating significant potential in multiple aspects such as increasing the capacity of communication systems,expanding coverage,and reducing energy consumption.In RIS-assisted communication systems,channel estimation is one of the key components in realizing the advantages of RIS technology.This paper first provides a systematic overview of the technical characteristics of RIS and its application prospects in modern communications.Then,according to the characteristics of different application scenarios,the key technologies of channel estimation in existing RIS-assisted communication scenarios are sorted out and summarized,clarifying the objectives and methods of each research hotspot.Finally,the technical challenges faced by the channel estimation in RIS-assisted communication scenarios in practical applications are discussed.关键词
