摘要

Abstract

South China,as a part of Rodinia and Gondwana,has evolved through the assembly and breakup of the supercontinent,the snowball earth,and the evolution of early life during the Neoproterozoic to Early Paleozoic.However,the tectonic feature of the Cathaysia block and its interrelation with the Yangtze block are still controversial,the key issue of which is the evolution of the South China Ocean.Here we summarize the main tectonic evolution models of Cathaysia block during the Neoproterozoic to Paleozoic based on the correlation of contemporaneous volcanic-sedimentary sequences and temporal-spatial evolution of the Yang-tze-typed and Cathaysia-type sedimentary formations,focusing on two models of intercontinental orogeny and accretionary orogeny.To accurately constrain the characteristics and evolution history of the South China Ocean,it is suggested that further research should be achieved on the sedimentary sequences,sedimentary timing,paleogeography and tectonic setting of Central South China during Neoproterozoic to Early Paleozo-ic,on the stratigraphic correlation across tectonic zones of Xinyi-Zengcheng and Chenzhou-Linwu-Qinfang,as well as further discussion on the Qinfang Trough.
