Abstract

The study of the loss characteristics of giant magnetostrictive materials is the key to understanding the thermal characteristics and optimal design of the giant magnetostrictive transducer(GMT).When giant magnetostrictive bar(GMM bar)work in the bias magnetic field of permanent magnet,the loss characteristics of the materials change due to the change of internal magnetic domain state,which brings great challenges to the calculation of magnetic energy loss of GMT.Therefore,a calculation method for the magnetic energy loss of the transducer with permanent magnet bias is proposed in this paper.First,based on the magnetization and magnetic domain theory of giant magnetostrictive materials,the mathematical mechanism model of the loss of GMT with permanent magnet bias is derived.Then,a calculation model for the magnetic energy loss of GMT considering the bias of permanent magnet and the uneven distribution of the axial magnetic field of GMM bar is established by using the micro-element idea,and the effectiveness of the model is verified by the finite element method.Finally,a test platform for the loss characteristics of GMT is built,and the accuracy of the proposed model is verified by analyzing the magnetic energy loss characteristics of GMT under different working conditions.Experimental results show that the loss calculation model proposed in this paper considering the influence of permanent magnet bias,achieves an average error of 2.93%between the model's predictions and measured data under transducer excitation frequencies ranging from 50 to 1050 Hz and flux density amplitudes of 0.01 to 0.25 T.This accuracy enables effective analysis of the magnetic energy loss in GMT.
