Abstract
The theory of nutrient and defense qi originates from the Huangdi's Internal Classic and is an important component of the the-oretical system of TCM.Both nutrient and defense qi are derived from diet,with the essence being nutrient qi and the vigorous part being defense qi.Nutrient qi runs through blood vessels and operates fifty times a day and night,playing a role in nourishing the body.Defense qi runs parallel with nutrient,running outside blood vessels.It travels in the yang direction during the day and in the yin direction at night,each for 25 circles,playing a role in consolidating the exterior and protecting the body.Nutrient and defense qi connect the organs and meridians of the body,maintain a stable internal environment and keep the health of the body.Modern medicine believes that there is a certain correlation between the theory of nutrient and defense qi and the neuroendocrine immune systems in regulating the mind,controlling blood vessels,regulating sleep,adjusting body temperature,defending the body,and regulating the body's circadian rhythm.When nutrient and defense qi are dysfunctional,the body will undergo molecular level changes,which are related to the changes in some cytokines or hormones produced during dysfunction of the neuroendocrine immune systems.Studying the correlation between the two can help prevent and treat existing diseases,promote modern understanding and research on the theory of nutrient and defense qi,and strengthen further understanding of the two.关键词
