Relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and depression symptoms in college students:A moderated mediation model

Abstract
Objective:To explore the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and depression symptoms and its mechanism.Methods:A total of 961 valid data were collected from college students using self-reported question-naires.The mediating and moderating roles of catastrophizing and family functioning in the relationship between in-tolerance of uncertainty and depressionsymptoms were examined using PROCESS scripts in R.Results:①Intolerance of uncertainty had a significant predictive effect on depressionsymptoms(β=0.38,P＜0.001).②Catastrocizing played a mediating role in the relationship between the uncertainty of intolerance and depressionsymptoms(effect=0.11,95％CI was[0.08,0.13]).③Family function moderated the predictive effect of unbearable uncertainty on catastroph-izing(β=0.13,P＜0.05).Conclusion:In the current rapidly changing social background,the family function can effec-tively buffer the impact of college students'uncertainty of intolerance on catastrophizing and then reduce the level of depression.关键词
