Tone Recognition between Preschool Children with Normal Hearing and Children with Cochlear Implant in Different Testing Conditions

Abstract
Objective To explore the tone recognition of preschool children with normal hearing and children with cochlear implant under different testing conditions.Methods 50 preschool children participated in this study.They were divided into a normal hearing group and cochlear implant group based on whether their hearing was normal.Among them,there were 13 males and 14 females in the normal hearing group,with age of 54.98±9.62 months,13 males and 10 females in the cochlear implant group,with age of 55.83±12.96 months.The test method was developed by the Ohio University.All subjects were tested for tone recognition in three test environments:quiet environment,speech spectrum noise(SSN)and two-talker babbles(TTB),the signal-to-noise ratio under the two noise environments were-6dB,0 dB,+6 dB and+12dB.Results Under the same test conditions,the tone recognition scores of children in the normal hearing group were higher than those in the cochlear implant group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).In the normal hearing group,tone recognition scores were higher in SSN compared with TTB and the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).In the cochlear implant group,only under the condition of SNR=0 for SSN and TTB had statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Conclusion Under different testing conditions,tone recognition in preschool children with normal hearing is better than that in cochlear implant children.The type of noise has an impact on tone recognition in children with normal hearing and cochlear implant children.关键词
