Abstract

To enhance the microbial solidification of sand,zeolite was considered as an adsorbent material due to its porous properties.Involving macroscopic physical and mechanical tests as well as micro-fine observations to systematically analyze the strengthening effects of zeolite on microbial solidified sand.The results indicate that zeolite significantly improves the bacteria fixation rate during the microbial reinforcement process of sand.Compared to conventional microbial solidification,the inclusion of zeolite increased the bacteria fixation rate by approximately 5.5 times,enhanced the compressive strength by 39.35%,and reduced the permeability coefficient by 71.94%.The addition of zeolite not only increased the quantity of calcium carbonate precipitate but also improved its distribution uniformity.Furthermore,the calcium carbonate precipitates around the zeolite effectively bridged the adjacent sand particles,enhancing the structural integrity between the sand particles and the overall integrity of the samples.These findings provide a reference for further optimization of MICP(microbially induced calcite precipitation,MICP)technology.
