Abstract

In order to investigate the adsorption mechanism of degradable microplastics with antibiotics in the aqueous environment both before and after aging,in this study,degradable microplastics polybutylene succinate(PBS)and levofloxacin(LEV)were selected for adsorption in an aqueous solution,and the effects of pH and salinity on the adsorption capacity were investigated.The results showed that aging by UV illumination produced a large number of folds and pores on the surface of PBS,decreased the crystallinity and increased the oxygen-containing functional groups,and the kinetics of adsorption of LEV on unaged PBS coincided with the quasi-primary kinetic model,where-as aged PBS was more in line with the quasi-secondary kinetic model and all of them reached the equilibrium of ad-sorption in 24 h.The results also showed that the adsorption capacity of PBS on LEV in aqueous solutions was signif-icantly reduced.The aged PBS was multilayer adsorbed and enhanced the adsorption capacity of LEV,where the equi-librium adsorption of LEV was 5.32 and 3.70 mg·g-1 for aged PBS and unaged PBS,respectively.pH value and salin-ity had significant effects on the adsorption of LEV by PBS,with the maximum adsorption occurring at pH of 7,and an increase in salinity decreased the adsorption of LEV by PBS.The results of the study provide a reference for evalu-ating the adsorption behaviour of degradable microplastics for antibiotics during aging in the environment.
