Abstract

Biomass tartaric acid and hexachlorocyclotriphosphonitrile were taken as raw materials,an eco-friendly P/Nsynergistic flame retardant(HCTA)containing multi-metal chelating sites was synthesized.The struc-ture of HCTA was characterized by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).Then HCTA was blended with polyacrylonitrile(PAN)spinning solution to prepare flame retardant PAN composite fibers(PAN/HCTA@Cu)by wet spinning process and using Cu2+-containing solution as the coagulation bath.Scanning electron micros-copy(SEM)and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)were used to investigate the cross-section of PAN/HCTA@Cu fibers,and the flame retardancy of PAN/HCTA@Cu was characterized by the limiting oxygen index(LOI)and combustion tests.The results showed that flame retardant HCTA and Cu2+were uniformly dispersed in the PAN matrix with good compatibility,and the PAN/HCTA@Cu had a high limiting oxygen index(LOI)of 31.7%,which was self-extinguishing and had excellent flame retardant properties after being removed from the fire.This paper provided a new idea for the development of eco-friendly flame retardant PAN composite fibers.
