Abstract
Abdulrazak Gurnah,the 2021 Nobel Laureate in Literature,sets his literary creations against the backdrop of the East African coast.This land is not only his homeland but also a significant source of inspiration for the imaginative worlds in his novels.In his work By the Sea,Gurnah's depiction of the coastline not only presents a unique and diverse world but also brings about a profound reflection on colonial history.Gurnah views the coastline as a cultural symbol,carrying countless stories and destinies,while also reflecting the impact of colonial history on local society.The final reconciliation between the protagonists Saleh Omar and Latif Mahmud by the sea is not merely a personal story but also symbolizes the unity of the community formed on the ocean's edge.This community transcends traditional ethnic concepts,built on the foundation of shared maritime culture and life experiences,showcasing a state of fluid coexistence.Through this,Gurnah calls for a more inclusive and open-minded attitude towards the existence of multiculturalism.关键词
