Another Land Ethic:Study on Lowdermilk in Comparison with Leopold
摘要
Abstract
The American scholars Lowdermilk and Leopold were both important pioneers in land ethics.In contemporary accounts of the history of Western environmental thought,Lowdermilk has been almost entirely overshadowed by Leopold.However,Lowdermilk proposed the land ethic aimed at the long-term well-being of future generations and the long-lasting prosperity of civilization.Furthermore,his scientific research laid an important scientific foundation for Leopold's land ethic.Lowdermilk's land ethic originated in China,and he himself has made outstanding contributions to the cause of land protection and soil and water conservation in China.In comparison with Leopold,it can be found that Lowdermilk has unique and inspiring views on the understanding of land,the ethical relationship between human beings and land,as well as the goal of land protection and the attribution of moral responsibility.The excavation and interpretation of Lowdermilk's thought will help people deeply understand the land ethic that originated in China and has global significance.关键词
