Abstract

Urban underground space is an important part in the process of urbanisation and plays an important role in the construction of low-carbon cities.Subway system is one of the most concerned urban transportation infrastructures to solve urban traffic congestion and air quality problems.Major infrastructure projects may lead to a significant reduction in urban tree coverage,thus affecting the land carbon sequestration potential of the city.This study investigated the temporal and spatial changes of land carbon sequestration caused by the Phase Ⅱ project of Chengdu Metro Line 10 from 2016 to 2019.The normalised difference vegetation index estimated from landsat8 oli satellite sensor data is used to detect tree cover change and quantify carbon storage.The results show that the land for commercial use,first-class residential use and transportation facilities increase sharply,while the land for third-class residential use,logistics and storage use and other land use decrease year by year.During the study period,the cutting down of urban trees for the construction of subway within 1,000 m from the subway track centre line caused 7.113 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.This emission is ignored when estimating the emission reduction due to the promotion of public transport.The study of the impact of subway stations on land use and the impact of subway project construction process on carbon emissions has an important guiding role in adjusting and optimising the subway project plan and energy conservation and emission reduction of the subway system.
