Abstract

Accurately quantifying carbon emissions generated throughout the entire process of forestry pro-duction and operational management is of great significance to promote forestry carbon trading,green and low-carbon sustainable development of forestry,and help achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.Taking 17 forestry enterprises within the key state-owned forest areas of the Lesser Khingan Mountains as the re-search objects,based on multilayer greenhouse gas accounting standards,different carbon emission sources were categorized into three scopes for calculating direct and indirect carbon emissions,forming a carbon footprint accounting system for forestry enterprises.Then,a carbon footprint accounting model was con-structed using the IPCC method combined with the process-based life cycle assessment approach.Utilizing data from surveys conducted by the 17 forestry enterprises from 2017 to 2021,the total carbon footprint and carbon footprint intensity were calculated,and critical points in the forestry enterprise's carbon foot-print were identified.Finally,Ridge regression was employed to investigate the impacts of the factors on the forestry enterprise's carbon footprint,such as total forest area,net change in forest area,area of affor-estation,tending area,pest and rodent disturbance area,fuel consumption of machinery,fuel consumption of vehicles,employed labor force,coal consumption,and electricity consumption.The results showed that 1)from 2017 to 2021,the average carbon footprint in the Lesser Khingan Mountains state-owned forest area was 58 142.81 t,with an annual average carbon footprint intensity of 18.17 kg·hm-2.Scope 2 ac-counted for 65.53%of the total carbon footprint,followed by Scope 1(19.97%)and Scope 3(14.50%).2)The annual average carbon footprint of forestry enterprises ranged from 2 539 to 4 619 t.Xinqing,Lan-gxiang,Wuyiling,Youhao,and Hongxing were high carbon footprint areas with an average carbon footprint of 4 054 t.Nancha,Meixi,Tangwanghe,Tieling,and Jinshantun were medium carbon footprint areas with an average carbon footprint of 3 551 t.Shangganling,Taoshan,Shuangfeng,Wumahe,Cuiluan,Wuying,and Dailing belonged to low carbon footprint areas with an average carbon footprint of 2 874 t.The annual aver-age carbon footprint intensity of forestry enterprises ranged from 12.73 to 27.53 kg·hm-2,showing a trend of higher values in the south and lower in the north.3)The consumption of coal and electricity,forest area,tending area,fuel consumption of machinery,and fuel consumption of vehicles were significant factors affecting the carbon footprint of forestry enterprises.Therefore,it was suggested that forestry enterprises should improve the efficiencies of energy use and forest activities and increase the use of clean energy sources to reduce the carbon footprint of forestry enterprises.
