Effects of Different Spider Mites on the Development and Reproduction of Neoseiulus californicus(McGregor)
摘要
Abstract
Effects of three different spider mites of rubber as prey on the growth, development, and reproduction of Neoseiulus californicus(McGregor)were investigated to explore the possibility of releasing the predatory mites into rubber plantations to establish their populations. The tests were run in laboratory at 27℃±1℃,RH 75%±5%and a 12L:12D photoperiod, where N.californicus fed on Eutetranychus orientalis(Klein),Oligonychus biharensis(Hirst),and Eotetranychus sexmaculatus(Riley)were observed for time-specific life table parameters. The results showed that the developmental duration of N.californicus, fed on E.orientalis,O.biharensis and E.sexmaculatus, was 6.88 days,8.03 days and 13.16 days, respectively, with significant differences among them, and with survival rates of 100%,100%,and 82.98%,respectively.There were significant differences in the survival to adults and oviposition rates between N.californicus fed on three different diets,of which N.californicus female adults fed on E.orientalishas lived the longest(34.5 days)and deposited the most(42.38 eggs/female),followed by the group fed on O.biharensis(26.01 days and 29.19 eggs/female,respectively),and those fed on E.sexmaculatus showed the lowest performance(13.60 days and 1.47 eggs/female,respectively).With E.orientalis as diet, the net reproductive rate and intrinsic rate of increase of N.californicus were the highest, reaching 28.700 and 0.273,respectively,followed by the group fed on O.biharensis, being 19.661 and 0.231,respectively.In contrast, when E.sexmaculatus was used as the prey, intrinsic rate of increase of N.californicus was-0.013.In conclusion,E.orientalis is the most suitable prey for the population growth of N.californicus, and the next is O.biharensis, while E.sexmaculatus is not suitable to maintain the population of N.californicus.In addition, further studies are needed to determine the population growth of N.californicus fed on the three spider mites at the same time.关键词
