摘要

Abstract

5-hydroxymethylfurfural(HMF)is an important bio-based platform chemical and was chosen as one of the top 12 value-added bio-based chemicals by the U.S.Department of Energy.The effective method for preparation HMF is the acid-catalyzed dehydration of hexoses which are limited in resources.Cellulose is widely available in nature.Using cellulose for HMF synthesis avoids the isolation of monosaccharides,and is considered as more cost-effective.Cellulose is low in reactivity and insoluble in water and general organic solvents due to its special chemical structure.The first significant barrier for the conversion of cellulose to HMF is the hydrolysis of cellulose.Based on cellulose structure and the mechanism of catalytic conversion of cellulose into HMF,known and emerging pretreatment methods,solvent systems,and catalyst systems in the conversion of cellulose into HMF in recent years are summarized.This review aims to provide references for further in-depth development of HMF production directly from cellulose and guidance for future conversion.
