Research on Low Temperature Performance of Hard Asphalt Treated Broken Stone Based on Modulus and Temperature Stresses

Abstract
It is more difficult to realize freeze fracture or bending test for large-size asphalt treated broken stone.In order to study the low-temperature performance of hard asphalt treated broken stone,two evaluation methods,namely,modulus master curve for a wide range of temperatures and low-temperature cracking temperature,were designed.Based on the modulus master curve,it was found that the dynamic modulus of hard asphalt treated broken stone was 112%higher than that of ordinary asphalt treated broken stone at 35 ℃,while it was only 19%higher than that of ordinary asphalt treated broken stone at-20 ℃.It was found that the low-temperature cracking temperatures calculated by temperature stress and tensile strength of both hard asphalt and ordinary asphalt treated broken stone reached the low-temperature cracking temperatures of less than-20 ℃,with the former was only 3 ℃ higher than the latter.The analysis and evaluation of both modulus and low-temperature cracking temperature show that the low-temperature performance of hard asphalt treated broken stone is slightly lower than that of ordinary asphalt treated broken stone,but it does not significantly increase the possibility of low-temperature cracking of pavements when they are applied to non-cold environments.关键词
