Abstract

It is more difficult to realize freeze fracture or bending test for large-size asphalt treated broken stone.In order to study the low-temperature performance of hard asphalt treated broken stone,two evaluation methods,namely,modulus master curve for a wide range of temperatures and low-temperature cracking temperature,were designed.Based on the modulus master curve,it was found that the dynamic modulus of hard asphalt treated broken stone was 112%higher than that of ordinary asphalt treated broken stone at 35 ℃,while it was only 19%higher than that of ordinary asphalt treated broken stone at-20 ℃.It was found that the low-temperature cracking temperatures calculated by temperature stress and tensile strength of both hard asphalt and ordinary asphalt treated broken stone reached the low-temperature cracking temperatures of less than-20 ℃,with the former was only 3 ℃ higher than the latter.The analysis and evaluation of both modulus and low-temperature cracking temperature show that the low-temperature performance of hard asphalt treated broken stone is slightly lower than that of ordinary asphalt treated broken stone,but it does not significantly increase the possibility of low-temperature cracking of pavements when they are applied to non-cold environments.
