Abstract

Bamboo forests are usually managed on an alternating on-and off-year basis to enhance productivity.However,the impact of the management model on soil carbon sequestration remains unsolved.This study compares the soil nutrient content and organic carbon fractions in moso bamboo plantations between on-and off-years.The results indicate that,compared to the on-year,the moso bamboo forest in the off-year has higher contents of soil total organic carbon(TOC),microbial biomass carbon(MBC),dissolved organic carbon(DOC),easily oxidizable carbon(EOC),iron-and aluminum-bound organic carbon(Fe(Al)-SOC)and calcium-bound organic carbon(Ca-SOC)as well as higher carbon pool management index,while the contents of pH,available(NH4-N+NO3-N)and available phosphorus(AP)are significantly lower.Correlation analysis reveals that TOC,DOC,EOC,Ca-SOC,and Fe(Al)-SOC in soil are significantly negatively correlated with pH,NO3-N,and AP(P<0.05),and significantly positively correlated with NH4-N(P<0.05).These findings suggest that off-year management of moso bamboo forest increases the content of soil organic carbon and its fractions as well as carbon pool management index,and can replenish the soil nutrients and carbon depleted in the on-year,thereby ensuring soil fertility and soil carbon sink.
