Based on China's provincial panel data from 2012 to 2021,this paper measures the level of China's digital econo-my and agricultural and rural modernization,and empirically tests the impact of digital economy on the modernization of agricul-ture and rural areas in China.The results show that the digital economy can not only directly promote the agricultural and rural modernization in China,but also indirectly have a positive impact on the agricultural and rural modernization in China by promot-ing technological innovation,and that the promoting effect of the digital economy on the agricultural and rural modernization has significant heterogeneity in regional structure and dimensions.The spatial econometric analysis finds that digital economy can generate positive spatial spillover effects,and that digital economy can not only promote the agricultural and rural modernization in local areas,but also have a promoting effect on the agricultural and rural modernization in adjacent areas.
