PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES IN NOVEL ENERGY STORAGE TECHNOLOGIES Ⅱ:PHYSICAL ENERGY STORAGE AND THERMAL STORAGE TECHNOLOGY

Abstract
Novel energy storage technology is increasingly becoming a key technology for building a new type energy system and a new type power system in China,and has become a new driving force for China's economic development.It will play an important role in promoting the consumption of renewable energy,achieving energy system transformation,improving energy utilization efficiency,reducing environmental pollution,and related technological research is also developing rapidly.A series of review paperwork are conducted,which are divided into three parts:electrochemical energy storage technology,physical energy storage and thermal storage technology,energy storage integration and planning.A comprehensive and systematic comparative analysis is conducted on the application fields,latest research progress,and limitations of various novel energy storage technologies.Furthermore,the challenges and development trends faced by energy storage system related fields such as energy storage integration,security,planning and scheduling are further explored.This paper is the second part of the review work,which focuses on the comprehensive analysis and discussion of the technologies and engineering achievements in physical energy storage and thermal storage technology,including compressed air energy storage,flywheel energy storage,gravity energy storage,phase change heat storage,thermochemical heat storage,and Carnot batteries.Overall,physical energy storage and thermal storage technologies mostly have the characteristics of long service life and high safety,and they often have rotational inertia in the energy conversion process.They belong to the grid supported energy storage technology and can meet different needs from large-scale long-term energy storage to high-power rapid response.Among emerging physical energy storage and thermal storage technologies,gravity energy storage and Carnot battery related technologies show promising development prospects.关键词
