Abstract

Effective mitigation of surge disasters near dam reservoirs is a prerequisite for ensuring the high-quality operation of water conservancy projects.Taking the surge induced by the instability of the No.4 toppled deformation body of the near-dam slope of a large-scale project as an example,a three-dimensional numerical simulation is used to study the characteristics of slope cutting and load reduction measures on surge dis-aster mitigation and seek a method to evaluate the efficiency of disaster reduction.The results show that the surge wave in the reservoir area be-longs to the limited water depth wave which is weak nonlinear shock wave and of which the secondary wave height is greater than the primary wave;four slope cutting and load reduction schemes are proposed,which effectively alleviate the impact of surge in the reservoir area.For exam-ple,in scheme No.4 which is of the least excavation,the maximum wave height in front of the dam is 2.55 m(the wave height without treatment is 11.31 m),and the wave reduction rate is about 0.78.The study proposed a slope cutting and load reduction efficiency coefficient,which can be used to evaluate the excavation volume and disaster reduction effect.The study results can provide an evaluation method for landslide surge disaster reduction in the reservoir area.
