Reliability and Validity of the Chinese Version of the Universal Mental Health Literacy Scale for Adolescents among Middle School Students

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the universal mental health lit-eracy scale for adolescents(UMHL-A)in Chinese middle school students.Methods:A total of 535 secondary school stu-dents(346 boys and 189 girls,average age 15.65±0.79)was surveyed via the Chinese version of UMHL-A,and the life sat-isfaction scale(SWLS),adolescent psychological resilience scale(RSCA),and CES-D10 were employed as the validity crite-ria.Results:Consistent with the original scale,the Chinese version of UMHL-A contained two sub-scales:knowledge scale and attitude scale.The knowledge scale includes two factors:knowledge of mental health(KMH)and knowledge of mental illness(KMI),and the attitude scale includes two factors:help-seeking and stigma.The correlations between score of each item and the total score of the scale ranged from 0.169 to 0.616.The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the two factor model(6-NAS scoring)of knowledge scale(x2/df=2.492,CFI=0.939,TLI=0.910,RMSEA=0.087,RMR=0.041)and the two factor model(1-2-3 scoring)of attitude scale(x2/df=2.018,CFI=0.907,TLI=0.872,RMSEA=0.062,RMR=0.018)had good fits.The Cronbach's α coefficients of the total scale were 0.667~0.773,and the test-retest reliability of the total scale was 0.851.The UMHL-A total score was positively associated with life satisfaction(r=0.171,P=0.017),and negatively associated with depression(r=-0.238,P=0.001).Conclusion:The Chinese version of UMHL-A has good reli-ability and validity,and can be an efficient tool to measure mental health literacy of middle school students in China.关键词
