摘要

Abstract

The spatial variability and temporal stability of throughfall are essential ecohydrological phenomena shaping water and nutrient dynamics in vegetation ecosystems.Due to the lack of systematic summary of research progress in this field,a total of 517 papers published from 2000 to 2022 in the Web of Science database were obtained by taking'throughfall','spatial heterogeneity','temporal stability',etc.as keywords.This study conducted the bibliometric analysis using CiteSpace and R software Bibliometrix package from the perspectives of literature amount,research hotspot and progress,and key countries,institutes,researchers and their collaborations on this field.The results indicate that:1)The global average annual growth rate of academic papers was 5.0%.Mainly concentrated in the United States,China and Germany,which occupied 51.3%of the total.The key contributors were the Chinese Academy of Sciences(6.8%)and researcher Levia DF(3.7%),and the main journal published was Journal of Hydrology(12.8%of total papers).Most studies were conducted in humid(66.7%)and warm temperate(49.7%)zones.2)From 2000 to 2009,the research focused on the plot scale,which emphasized the impact of throughfall on soil water and nutrient replenishment.From 2010 to 2013,attention shifted to surface hydrology and the intricate processes involved in transporting canopy sediment.From 2014 to 2022,studies addressed the holistic hydrological pathway connecting the canopy,surface and soil by incorporating observations of canopy interception,soil evaporation,and soil moisture dynamics and with explicit emphasis on the precise characterization of temporal stability.3)China ranked the second globally in terms of the number of papers published(83,16.1%of the total)with a notable annual growth rate of 49.7%since 2011.Despite high publication volume,the average citations per paper remained modest at 16.9 from 2000 to 2022.In terms of citation impact,China hold the 16th position globally.In summary,significant progress has been made in throughfall dynamics research since 2000,particularly in China.However,its research influence urgently needs to be improved.Future investigations should explore the pivotal role of throughfall in water,nutrient and pollutant transport within the intricate'atmosphere-vegetation-soil continuum'of terrestrial hydrological processes.International collaboration is imperative for a profound understanding the intricate processes,patterns and influencing mechanisms of forest ecohydrology.
