Abstract

As fossil energy is gradually exhausted,new energy vehicles are booming and becoming mainstream means of transportation.The lithium battery,the core component of new energy vehicles,makes vehicle safety hard to guarantee due to its heating characteristics.Thus,the ultimate aim of researching the thermal management of automotive lithium batteries is to address the temperature issue of the battery pack.This paper conducted simulated research on the working principle and heating mechanism of lithium batteries and models lithium batteries by utilizing knowledge such as heat transfer and fluid mechanics.Mesh generation and simulation analysis of single batteries were carried out in ANSYS 17.2,and numerical analysis of the heat transfer performance of L-shaped pulsating heat pipe battery packs was performed under discharge rates ranging from 1C to 3C.The results indicated that the heating rate increases with the rise of C-rate,and an increase in the battery's ambient temperature will also lead to an increase in heat generation.The heating rate ranges from 10 W to 30 W.The results showed that through simulation calculation of the battery pack consisting of an L-shaped heat pipe and a plate lithium-ion battery,under the cooling water condition of 25℃and the current condition of 1C to 3C,the average temperature of the battery pack was kept below 50℃,and the maximum temperature was 55℃.This can fully ensure the normal operating temperature of the battery.Compared with other heat dissipation methods,the L-shaped pulsating heat pipe has the best heat dissipation performance in the battery thermal management system.
