Abstract
Objective To report age distribution characteristics in 18 571 tinnitus patients.Methods Age data from 18571 patients presented to the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery,Henan Provincial People's Hospi-tal,from January 2018 to December 2021 with tinnitus as the primary complaint(aged 6-98 years,mean=45.88±16.03 years)were divided into different age stagesaccording to the age classification standards of the World Health Organiza-tion and domestic standards,i.e.young(6-44 years,n=8721),middle aged(45-59 years,n=6197)and elderly(60-98 years,n=3653).were.The patients were.The young age group was further categorized as children(≤14 years),youth adults(15-29 years)and young middle-aged(30-44 years).The elderly group was further divided into an early elderly group(60-74 years),an elderly group(75-89 years)and a longevity group(≥90 years).Age and gender distribution char-acteristics were analyzed among the groups.Results Two peaks were identified at 30-35 years and 52-58 years old.Male patients showed a predominant peak in the youth group,while female patients showed a predominant peak in the middle age group,with a gender difference among all age groups(P<0.05),similarly among the children,young adults and young middle aged groups(P=0.418).There was more female patients than male patients among all the subgroups in the elderly group(P=0.119).Conclusion Despite the large population of individuals with tinnitus,only a small pro-portion of them seek medical treatment.With the increase of age,the prevalence of tinnitus increases.The differences in the number of visits and peak age between male and female gender suggest potentially gender-based different pathogene-sis in tinnitus.关键词
