Abstract

In the exploration of factors influencing English achievement,there has historically been a predominant focus on cognitive aspects,while aspects related to achievement emotions have received comparatively less attention.To delve deeper into the predictive mechanism of emotional intelligence on English achievement,the study was undertaken involving 303 college stu-dents,employing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.The findings revealed four key insights:Firstly,the emotional in-telligence of college students was found to be situated at an intermediate level.Secondly,there were substantial differences in emo-tional intelligence among college students of different genders and different English achievement groups,with females having high-er levels of emotional intelligence than males,and higher levels of emotional intelligence in groups with higher English achieve-ment.Thirdly,a significant and positive correlation was established between emotional intelligence and English achievement.Last-ly,emotional intelligence was found to account for 2.4%of the variance in English achievement.The findings prompt educators to reconsider traditional perceptions and recognize foreign language learning as a dynamic interplay between psychological and so-cial factors.It advocates for a heightened focus on learners'psychological processes and emphasizes the significance of nurturing and supporting the development of emotional intelligence.
