Abstract

The selection of ring stiffness is a key step in the design of buried double-wall corrugated HDPE pipe.In this paper,both normative methods and finite element methods were used to analyze the vertical deformation and stress of pipes under different pipe diameters,burial depths,and foundation central angles,and to obtain the minimum ring stiffness required for the pipes.The results show that compared with the finite element method,the normative method calculates stress and vertical deformation of pipes that are10%to 50%larger,and the difference between the two methods gradually increases with the increase of burial depth.When the burial depth of the pipe is shallow,the required ring stiffness is controlled by the ring section strength,and when the burial depth is deep,the required ring stiffness is controlled by the ring section deformation.The critical buri-al depth for the change of ring stiffness control conditions for DN300~800 mm pipes is between3.5~4.8 m.Based on the calculation results,the selected values of the ring stiffness of buried double-wall corrugated HDPE pipe under different conditions are given.
