Study on the Mediating Effect of Pain Level Between Arthritis and Depression Symptoms

Abstract
Objective:To explore the mediating effect of pain level between arthritis and depression symptoms,and provide a basis for preventing and controlling the progression of depression symptoms in Chinese elderly people.Methods:4908 study subjects were selected from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study in 2020(CHARLS).and the relationship between arthritis,pain level,and depression symptoms was evaluated through statistical description,Spearman correlation analysis,and stepwise regression analysis,and a mediation model was established.Bootstrap method was used to examine the mediating effect of pain level between arthritis and depression symptoms in elderly individuals.Results:The incidence of arthritis in the elderly was 9.82%,and the detection rate of depressive symptoms was 32.29%.Regression analysis showed that arthritis and pain level had a significant impact on depressive symptoms(arthritis:t=2.963,P<0.01;pain level:t=11.511,P<0.001).The mediation model results showed that there was a partial mediating effect of pain level between arthritis and depression in elderly people,with a total effect value of 1.702,a direct effect value of 0.815,and a mediating effect value of 0.887(accounting for 52.10%of the total effect).Conclusion:The degree of pain partially mediates the relationship between arthritis and depression symptoms.It is important to pay attention to pain management in arthritis patients,alleviate the negative impact of arthritis on the mental health of the elderly,and reduce the incidence of depression symptoms.关键词
