Abstract

This paper studies practices of drainage network management in Longgang District,Shenzhen,including the creation and long-term management of non-direct wastewater discharge area,to promote the realization of rainwater and wastewater diversion,enhances the efficiency of wastewater collection and treatment,and continuously improves the quality of water environment,providing a model for other cities to carry out drainage network system surveys,rainwater and wastewater diversion remediation,and long-term management.In Longgang District,the creation and management model of the non-direct wastewater discharge area were explored through four stages:grid division,systematic investigation,renovation,inspection,and long-term management.With the assistance of water quality testing,the source residential areas were investigated,and the current status of drainage water quality in the residential areas was analyzed,identifying the influencing factors.Through case analysis,the changes in water quality before and after the creation of the non-direct wastewater discharge area were demonstrated,verifying the effectiveness of the creation work.Through the creation of the"non-direct wastewater discharge area",the length of excellent rivers in Longgang District was increased by 28.5 km compared to the previous year in 2022,and the average influent BOD5 concentration at the wastewater treatment plants was enhanced by 31.6%compared to 2020.Water quality testing in residential areas could assist in the investigation of source residential areas,where higher levels of ammonia nitrogen and BOD5 were found in industrial areas and urban villages,suggesting potential non-compliant discharge of industrial wastewater and direct discharge of catering wastewater.Significant differences in water quality at the outlets of some residential areas between sunny and rainy days might indicate incorrect connections of rainwater to the wastewater network,necessitating focused investigation and rectification.Residential areas with public institutions had relatively lower proportions of domestic sewage,resulting in lower BOD5 concentrations,which overall reduced the inflow concentration of the water purification plant.To prevent the recurrence of problems in the established non-direct wastewater discharge area,long-term strategies including dynamic assessment and acceptance,a"three-in-one"joint responsibility mechanism,and professional and intelligent management of drainage facilities were proposed.The practical experience in Longgang District demonstrates that the creation and implementation of refined management in non-direct wastewater discharge area is an effective way to enhance the quality of the water environment and the inflow concentration of the water purification plant.
