A Research Overview of Communication in the Construction Industry:A Comparison Based on Chinese and English Literature

Abstract
Effective communication among stakeholders has a significant influence on the performance of engineering projects,yet research overviews of communication in the construction industry are scarcely seen at home and abroad.This study retrieved data from the databases of the China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI)and the American Society of Civil Engineers(ASCE),and selected 14 Chinese and 32 English journal articles focused on communication in the construction industry with the method of"snowballing",which were then compared and analyzed in terms of their research objects,methodologies,and themes.The research results showed that in both Chinese and English literature project stakeholders are the most prevalent objects;modelling and questionnaire surveys are the most common research methods;and"the role of communication","communication skills",and"factors influencing communication"constitute the most frequently explored themes.While there are similarities,significant differences also exist between Chinese and English literature in terms of research objects,methodologies,and themes.The research findings herein can provide valuable insights for domestic researchers to conduct research on communication in the construction industry.关键词
