Reflections on original intent and practical issues of day surgery

Abstract
Day surgery was initially pioneered by pediatric surgeons and has a history of over a century in foreign countries.In the past decade or so,driven by policy initiatives,more than 2000 hospitals in China have implemented day surgery.As a new surgical management model distinct from traditional inpatient and out-patient surgeries,various medical institutions have different understandings,management philosophies,and de-velopment directions for day surgery,leading to inconsistent concepts,standards,and recommended surgical pro-cedures across regions.The expansion of medical resources in recent years has also encountered some obstacles in the implementation of day surgery.Given the shorter hospital stay and higher quality requirements of day sur-gery,traditional medical quality management systems are not fully adapted to the fast-paced day surgery model.Therefore,strict admission and evaluation systems need to be established.The practice of day surgery must focus on the three original intents of alleviating difficulties in accessing medical care,improving the medical experi-ence,and enhancing hospital performance management.It is crucial to accurately understand the spirit of rele-vant government documents and consistently apply the patient-centered approach to ensure that more patients can benefit from safe,efficient,convenient,and comfortable day surgery services.关键词
