摘要

Abstract

Toxocariasis caused by the species of Toxocara is a global disease with significant threats to human and animal health,and the embryonated egg is the main source of infection for the occurrence and prevalence of this zoonotic disease.To study the morphological changes of Toxocara eggs,an intelligent color microscopic image recognition system was used to track and record the complete developmental processes of eggs from three common Toxocara species including Toxocara canis,Toxocara cati and Toxocara vitulorum within a continuous 21-day egg culture in vitro.The results showed that:1)The complete development of eggs from either T.canis or T.vitulorum was divided into 12 development stages including one-cell,two-cell,three-cell,four-cell,early-morula stage,late-morula stage,blastula,gastrula,pre-L1(the first-stage larva),L1,pre-L2(the second-stage larva)and L2 stages;in contrast,T.cati eggs was divided into 13 developmental stages because of the presence of the five-cell stage.2)Comparative observations revealed that Toxocara eggs started with cleavage and entered the two-to-five cell stages after 24-hour culture,followed by the morula,blastula and gastrula stages after 3 day to 5 day culture.Further,2.2%T.cati egg developed into the L1 stage on the 6th day and 2.1%T.cati egg developed into the infective L2 stage on the 7th day.Correspondingly,22.5%T.canis eggs developed into the L1 stage on the 7th day and 10.7%T.canis eggs developed into infective L2 stage on the 8th day;1.85%T.vitulorum eggs developed into the L1 stage on the 6th day and 0.9%T.vitulorum eggs developed into the infective L2 stage on the 9th day,thus it was notable that the T.cati egg had the fastest development rate among Toxocara species.These results updated the basic knowledge on developmental morphology of Toxocara eggs in vitro.
