County-level agricultural productivity and spatial characteristics in hilly and mountainous areas of Fujian Province:An empirical study based on entropy weighted TOPSIS modeling

Abstract

The aims of this study are to scientifically measure the development level of agricultural productivity in counties,optimize the layout of agricultural industry structure,achieve agricultural modernization.Taking 74 hilly and mountainous counties in Fujian Province as an example,from the prospects of agricultural production functions and agricultural value functions,a comprehensive evaluation index system of agricultural productivity in counties including 28 indicators is constructed.The indicators include 5 aspects:production resources and conditions,production levels and capabilities,agricultural structure,output value,and market competitiveness.The entropy weight method is used to determine the comprehensive weight,functional index weight,and characteristic index weight of each indicator.Then,the TOPSIS method is used to evaluate the agricultural comprehensive productivity level,production function index level,and characteristic index level of 74 counties,and on the basis of evaluation.ARCGIS is applied to analyze the spatial distribution characteristics of counties.The results showed that:1)Among the 28 indicator weights,8 indicators had weights less than 0.01,18 indicators had weights between 0.01-0.1,and 2 indicators had weights greater than 0.1.The weight contribution is relatively reasonable.In terms of entropy value,most indicators have relatively high entropy values,while 26 indicators have entropy values above 0.9.This indicates that the information content of the indicators is relatively small and the uncertainty is relatively high.2)In terms of measuring the level of agricultural comprehensive productivity,the number of advantageous counties in southern Fujian is more than northeastern Fujian,and the number of advantageous counties in northwestern Fujian is the least.This indicates that the role of production capacity and other factors in the development of productivity is constantly increasing.3)In terms of measuring the level of functional indicators,the number of counties with comparative advantages in agricultural production functions in Southern Fujian is equal to the number in Northwestern Fujian,which is more than Northeastern Fujian,which indicates that the northwest part has advantages in resource endowment compared to the southeast part,but Southern Fujian has advantages in production capacity.The number of counties with comparative advantages in agricultural value and function in Northeastern Fujian is greater than Northwestern Fujian,and Northwestern Fujian is greater than Southern Fujian,which indicates that the quantity of products in Northwestern Fujian is more than that in Southern and Northeastern Fujian.Therefore,leveraging resource advantages,building distinctive brands,strengthening investment in science and technology,and increasing financial support are important measures to optimize the layout of productivity.
