Abstract

The four coastal provinces(regions)in South China are important regions for the development of modern agricultural economy.However,this region has large population and limited land,relatively high pressure on grain production,especially the rice production concentrated areas are faced with the challenge of reducing the double-cropping rice planting area.In order to effectively improve grain production capacity and construct a new high-quality production system,based on statistical data from four southern provinces(regions)including Fujian,Guangdong,Hainan,and Guangxi,this study analyzed the current situation and main problems of rice production in four provinces(regions),and elaborated the current status,main advantages and development potential of ratooning rice in the region.The results showed that in the past 20 years,the planting area and yield of rice in the region decreased by 30.46%and 22.56%,respectively.Due to the pressure of rice cultivation income and other factors,the area of double cropping rice constantly reduced,and the*non grain"production of cultivated land intensified.Ratooning rice,as a rice planting system with significant benefits,has been further developed.The average yield of ratooning rice reaches 23.86%to 79.31%of that of the first season rice.With the progress of cultivation technology,the cultivation of ratooning rice is gradually transitioning towards positive scale,mechanization,light simplification,and standardization,showing good potential for increased grain production.Combined with the actual situation of regional grain production,this study also has proposed a new pattern and measures of optimizing"over ton grain"production with main rice+ratooning rice.Its main contents include:1)implement technological breakthroughs and breed new rice varieties suitable for regenerative cultivation;2)encourage the development of ratooning rice in suitable regions and expand the machine harvesting area;3)implement the project of"over ton grain"production with main rice+ratooning rice;4)promote a new model of green and socialized services throughout ratooning rice production;5)build a new high quality and green production system by supporting by brand development;6)build new brands of ratooning rice and increase technological demonstrations and publicity efforts.
