Abstract

In order to investigate the fractal characteristics of red sandstone fragmentation under different strain rates under impact loading,a 100 mm large-diameter split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)was used to conduct impact com-pression tests on red sandstone.Stress-strain curves,energy parameters,and distribution of fractured rock blocks of red sandstone under medium and high strain rates were obtained.Based on the mass fractal model of fragment size distribution,the fragmentation energy dissipation characteristics of red sandstone under impact load were analyzed,and the correlation between fractal dimension D and dissipated energy density η was quantitatively analyzed.The study results indicate that the dynamic compressive strength of red sandstone increases with the increase of strain rate,demonstrating a clear rate depen-dency.Meanwhile,the macroscopic fragmentation pattern of red sandstone becomes more crushed with the increase of strain rate.As the dissipated energy density η increases,the fractal dimension D also shows a corresponding increase,and this growth trend is consistent with the power function relationship.
