Photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics by aluminum-modified hydrothermal carbonized carbon

Abstract

To improve the photocatalytic performance of hydrothermal carbonized carbon(HTCC),Al-modified HTCC(Al-HTCC)was prepared by modification of Al for antibiotic degradation in water.The morphology,chemical structure and charge separation properties of the photocatalyst were systematically characterized by scanning electron microscopy,X ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.The photocatalytic performance of Al-HTCC was evaluated using a xenon lamp as the simulated solar light source and a typical antibiotic sulfamethoxazole(SMX)as the target pollutant.The results showed that under visible-light irradiation,only 7%of SMX was removed by HTCC within 300 min and the removal rate of SMX by Al-HTCC was significantly improved and reached 87.6%within 300 min.The improved catalytic performance of Al-HTCC was attributed to the enhanced charge transfer ability of the modified catalyst,and more surface carbonyl groups promoted the charge migration between the pollutant and the catalyst.
