Abstract

The effect of different forms of Isochrysis galbana on the growth and development of D-shaped Ruditapes philippinarum larvae was evaluated by feeding them with artificially cultured I.galbana 3011,dried I.galbana powder,and concentrated liquid I.galbana.The larval density,relative growth rate,and expression levels of amylase(AMY),mitogen-activated protein kinase 1(MAPK1),and insulin-like growth factor(IGF)genes were determined.The results showed that larvae fed with live I.galbana outperformed those fed with I.galbana powder or concentrated liquid I.galbana in terms of growth rate and survival,indicating that drying and concentration freezing affected the nutritional value of I.galbana.The survival rate of larvae fed with concentrated liquid I.gal-bana was higher than that of larvae fed with algal powder,but the growth rate was lower.Decreased growth rate,survival,AMY,MAPK1,and IGF expression were observed in starved larvae.This study demonstrated that a correct food supply is essential for the growth and development of R.philippinarum larvae and that dried I.galbana pow-der or concentrated liquid I.galbana is not a complete substitute for live I.galbana and can be used as additives during production.This study provides a reference for the nutritional requirements of R.philippinarum larvae and large-scale artificial reproduction technology.
