The Characteristics and New Trends of Japanese International Relations Research
摘要
Abstract
The study of international relations in Japan began to take on a disciplinary scale in the 1920s,and in the 1930s it was reduced to a tool for the foreign aggression and expansion of fascist militarism.After World War Ⅱ,the study of international relations in Japan returned to the academic track and formed a multi-disciplinary system,including historical studies,regional and national studies,theoretical studies and non-state subject studies Among them historical research and regional country studies dominate,both of which are characterized by empirical research;theoretical research is relatively weak.The main theme of Japanese international relations research is to develop the relatively weak theoretical research in an innovative way.Japanese academics have been focusing on promoting the mutual promotion of theoretical research and other research fields,instead of the construction of a"Japanese school"of international relations theoretical research.Japan belongs to the West in realpolitik,but the study of international relations belongs to the non-West.Japan has frequent academic exchanges with the U.S.,and the theoretical research in international relations is mainly based on the introduction of relevant theories from the U.S.,but the subject system and research methods are not influenced by the U.S..With the rise of global international relations studies,which emphasizes non-Western actors,there are increasing calls from Japanese academics for the elimination of U.S.-centrism in the study of international relations theories and respect for the historical and cultural diversity of different countries and regions,as well as a trend toward exploring the endogenous and original nature of Japan's theoretical studies of international relations.In addition,in view of the frequent global crises that have occurred in the twenty-first century,Japanese scholars have advocated the construction of a theory of global relations that focuses on the intricate"relationality"of actors,in order to overcome the shortcomings of actor-centrism in previous studies.关键词
