Energy-Saving Dormancy Technique in 5G Wireless Networks

Abstract
While 5G significantly outperforms 4G in peak energy efficiency,5G services exhibit tidal effects and load imbalances,leading to severe"idling"during low-load periods at base stations and resulting in substantial energy waste.Currently,two techniques,shallow and deep dormancy,are proposed in the industry to reduce power consumption.However,even under deep dormancy,AAU/RRU equipment still consumes about 100 W,which is considered unnecessary power usage.To achieve more optimal energy-saving effects,this paper innovatively proposes an extreme dormancy technique.Based on the current network equipment,three implementation schemes are suggested to reduce the power consumption of AAU/RRU equipment to within 10 W,further enhancing the energy-saving ratio.On the other hand,through field trials,this study comprehensively analyzes the advantages and limitations of the existing three dormancy techniques,offers application recommendations for different scenarios,and contributes towards a greener,more efficient,and sustainable development of 5G networks.关键词
