Abstract

The Three Gorges Project,which is the largest multi-purpose dam of the world,can generate benefits of various types,and is a key project for the management,protection,development and utilization of the Yangtze River.In 2020 after the completion of check and acceptance,the dam entered the normal operation period.Safety management of the Three Gorges Dam has been highlighted by strengthening accountabilities,institutional system,risk control,government supervision.Since 2012,the Three Gorges Dam has been registered as a Grade A for three consecutive times,and the first regular inspection of dam safety has been successfully completed in 2021.The safety monitoring of the Three Gorges Project not only provides data support for guiding the dam construction,verifying the design and operating safety evaluation,but also greatly promotes the safety monitoring and management level of our country.With a focus on new technologies for dam safety and technology development for monitoring,analysis and early warning,dam safety has been strengthened to ensure long-term operation and benefit generation of the project thanks to the adoption of online monitoring system and the digital twin Three Gorges Ship Lift.Based on the requirements of high-quality development in the new stage,future prospect are studied to enhance the safety of project from the aspects of strengthening management capacity in a constant manner,establishment of an integrated monitoring system of"sky-space-earth-hydraulic engineering",and safety monitoring of key parts of the project and digital twin construction.
